Our Team

Dr. Shirlie Dowd Herbst is a New Hampshire native. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston in 2005. After practicing in Manhattan for four years, Dr. Dowd Herbst returned to New Hampshire and practiced on the seacoast until the beginning of 2026 when she joined the team at Northeast Eyecare. 

Dr. Dowd Herbst has volunteered her optometric services in underserved communities around the world, including Mexico, Nicaragua, Thailand, China, the Philippines, Peru, and on a Native American reservation in North Dakota. She currently lives in Hooksett, New Hampshire, with her husband, their two daughters, and her father. 

A native of Maine, Dr. Susan E. Fischer is a highly accomplished optometrist with advanced expertise in ocular disease and glaucoma management. She graduated as valedictorian from the SUNY College of Optometry in New York City and completed a competitive residency in Ocular Disease and Glaucoma, where she received advanced clinical training in diagnosing and treating complex eye conditions.

Dr. Fischer provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, including routine eye exams, contact lens fittings, and the management of conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. She is known for her patient-centered approach, clinical precision, and dedication to long-term eye health.

Now proud to serve the Deerfield community, Dr. Fischer brings both compassion and excellence to her practice. Outside the office, she enjoys singing with a local band, spending time with her horses, and growing dahlias.
